Exposure to zillions of artists is one of the principal drives I've had to improve as an artist and come to where I am today. This I owe to the dev community.
I'm not putting myself on a pedestal here. I'm not a seasoned comic pro... hell, I wouldn't exactly call myself a pro yet, my first printed work isn't even on the shelves yet. However, I am a professional artist, and I think I have some knowledge and experience.
That's why it's time to give back to community. Pay it forward, so to speak.
These sketches are excercises in character rendering. I reallyrecommend you do the steps in the order listed. It really helps to speedily repeat the same craneofacial makeup several times, since it helps create muscle memory. They say teaching is learning, and I agree, I got more out of making this then I think people will get out of reading it.
Anyway, I hope it helps anyone working to become a better artist. And remember, be original. No technique is the superior (certainly not mine), and take what you get out of this tutorial and make it your own.
I'll try to whip out a female heroic, and then a male and female civilian version, soon.
I'm glad I have helped you contribute to the noble crusade against femme-looking men and wiping the blemish that is their presence off the face of this world.
Heheh, j/k. It's not that I hate Shoujou/Shounen anime or anything, it's just that I believe there are much more elevated styles, both in japan and in the rest of the world. However, they are a great start for people wanting to be artists due to their simplicity. But then it's time to grow up right? I know I use to draw like this, at least in my teens.
Glad I could help, thank you for your kind words and the fave

Well I got nothing against them either... I'm just so used to drawing women that my men end up looking like them XD (apart from what my avatar looks like, I don't draw anime/manga style... at least not the stereotypical one).

Daily Literature Deviations is a group that is dedicated to bringing literature to the forefront of the deviantArt community. We attempt to accomplish this by daily featuring Literature artists from around the community that deserve the recognition, but are not getting it.
Each day we will feature 5 deviations from the Literature categories in a News Article. In order to support the artists that we feature, we ask that you the news article as well as check out the individual pieces. We understand that each day you may not be able to check out each and every one of the pieces, everyone has their own things going on. We just ask that you make an attempt to help support the growing Literature community.

I'm much more used to drawing women so this comes quite handy since I'm still trying to make my men look like men and not girlish boys.
And it's also a great tutorial btw, very comprehensive and simple. Great job
