Artist's Comments

This was SOOO fun to do. It was a breath of fresh air among work, school and routinely crap. I had a lot of fun making it, since it was very spur of the moment.

By spur of the moment, I mean I read about the Art Boardz cover contest on Wednesday, and had to pop it out by deadline this Friday last (yeah, I'm talking like a New England tobacco farmer now). God, I hope I win one of them. I could really use a small victory. I submitted both the pencils and inks in hopes of this.

So it was fun to just cut loose and put down some random, out of the back of my head characters.

Yes, I know I have to work on my dry brushing. Any tips on that, inkers, would be welcome.

Any takers for coloring? Here's the link for the high-res inks.
------> [link] and [link] for the color harmonies I created to save you guys some time on selections. Their basically for sunset colors, but go nuts.

That is, of course, by some miracle I win the @#$%ing thing and it becomes property of BCEMylar.

8H, 4H, 2H and HB pencils on 2-ply vellum finish bristol.

Inked with a Pentel brush pens, Yasutomo brushes, Hunt crow quill pen, Pelikan India ink, and a massive hangover from drinking too much on Thursday.

Well, the 8h was just for the guides, it doesn't show up. Only 2h and softer appear.

I don't know... let me check my mail. They said they would announce the winners today.

...checking...

Nope, nothing in my email or their website yet.

this is pretty nice too. ink guy tip- i would have dry brushed the rocks a little. u need a brush thats like a half inch wide. flat brush or whats called an edging brush. now u soak that bitch in a little bit o ink. let the ink dry on there till its hard. after like 2 days u should have a good one. now crack some of the ink off. what yer left with is a brush with texture. u can even cut off specific hairs on the brush to give u a particular finish to yer piece. now when u dip this sumbitch in yer new ink make sure u wipe almost all of it off on a rag or another piece o paper. there u go. again this is great stuff, keep up the good work and dont be a stranger!

Hmm, so I should prepare the brush by letting the ink harden on it, huh?

I actually tried dry brushing the rocks; first time ever I've tried this technique. Didn't come out quite as I expected.

I just got an edging brush, though. I bought a whole bunch of brushes in NY and I just got it. They were having a sale, I dunno why I picked it up. I guess I'll go ahead and prepare the thing to be my dry brush.
